Dr Gillian Polack is an Australian writer and editor. Her novels are mostly science fiction and contemporary fantasy, which is a bit odd, for she is also an historian. Several of her books have been short-listed for awards. The most recent of these is The Year of the Fruit Cake, which won the Ditmar award for best novel and was shortlisted for an Aurealis award in 2020. Her short stories have also been mildly recognised, and her 2018 collection of short fiction Mountains of the Mind, was short listed for an award.
Her hobbies include cooking, researching historical foodways and reading. She claims to have a collection of select and very attractive fans.
